Hai Sobat Blogger Anjassoft Setelah penantian panjang dan juga setelah beberapa kali perubahan jadwal dari yang awalnya 8 mei, lalu ada ralat jadi 15 mei, lalu diubah lagi mejadi 22 mei, dan akhirnya release secara resmi untuk versi stable pada tanggal 29 mei.

Pada versi 17 ini dengan code name "Beefy Miracle" dengan fitur utama :

• GNOME 3.4 dan KDE 4.8
• OpenStack, Eucalyptus, CloudStack dan Open Nebula
• ICC profil untuk pencetakan warna dan gimp ditingkatkan
• Masih lebih virtualisasi perbaikan

untuk lebih jelasnya apa saja yang baru di Fedora 17 ini, bisa dilihat di http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/17/FeatureList 

Oh iya, yang udah pake Fedora 16 terus mau upgrade saya rekomendasikan upgrade-nya menggunakan DVD repository Fedora 17 (menurut dari situs resminya juga itu direkomendasikan) tapi buat yang mau coba-coba bisa ko direct upgrade menggunakan yum, untuk lebih jelas buka ini, atau secara garis besarnya seperti ini :

Backup terlebih dahulu data-data yang berada di direktori user/home atau kalau menggunakan localhost, backup terlebih dahulu seluruh direktori htdoc atau sejenisnya dan juga databasenya seperti MySql dll (takutnya ada kesalahan fatal yang mengharuskan fresh install untuk sistemnya)

Bersihkan dahulu yang berhubungan dengan repo yang sudah lama, caranya

su
yum install rpmconf; rpmconf -a

Lalu cari konfigurasi yang lama dengan cara

find /etc /var -name '*.rpm?*'

Kemudian cari paket-paket yang tidak terpakai dengan

yum install yum-utils; package-cleanup --leaves
yum remove package-name-and-version
yum install rpmreaper

Lalu cari apabila ada paket yang hilang dengan cara

package-cleanup --orphans

Nah sekarang mulai meng-upgrade, sebaiknya menggunakan mode teks dengan cara log-out dahulu dari session graphical desktop lalu ketikan ctrl + alt + F2.

Lalu menghapus semua jejak dari versi Anda meninggalkan dari cache yum di / var / cache / yum.

yum clean all

Upgrade semua paket

Setelah upgrade langsung dimulai, jangan berhenti upgrade dengan reboot, membunuh proses, atau dengan metode lainnya sampai selesai. Mengganggu upgrade akan menyebabkan sistem yang terkena dampak untuk berada dalam keadaan campuran - sebagian rilis lama dan sebagian rilis baru. Dalam keadaan ini, sistem tidak akan dapat diandalkan dan tidak akan beroperasi seperti yang diharapkan. Anda dapat mencoba menjalankan

yum --releasever=[release_number_you_want_to_sync_to] distro-sync
